Hearing Disorder
Hearing Difficulties (case study and testimonial) J, a 7 year old boy.
Presented hearing difficulties and some minor social behavioural issues similar to those of aspergers. Mother reported that the birth was quite traumatic and the use of clamps were used which resulted in severe bruising around left side of skull around area of ear. J has since then always had problems with both ears particularly left side. Various symptoms include regular congestion, bursting of eardrums on a frequent basis, bleeding from ears, ear infections, and regular pain and popping sensations in ears.
Treated J for around 6 months on a regular basis, within first 3 treatments there was notable reduction in congestion and pain/popping in ears had reduced in regularity.
Surgery looked unavoidable due to the nature of repeated infections and increased hearing loss. Insertion of grommets in ears would hopefully prevent the possibility of permanent deafness. By third month of treatment J had had very few instances of eardrum perforation, hardly and pain in the ears, his eye contact was considerably better, also of note was that the left side of his face seemed to have altered slightly in its appearance as in didn’t look so ‘drawn’. Consultants hearing test still confirmed that his hearing was very poor, particularly left side and that surgery would have to be done asap.
A few more treatments and no reported problems with ears at all. Last hearing test prior to surgery reported normal hearing! Surgery was cancelled. J and Mother went on holiday to America which involved repeated flights, J experienced some pressure pain during flight but ears did not perforate and all was well. J has since not had any problems with his ears and his social behavioural patterns are considerably improved.
Mother's Testemonial
“Having a bath or shower without first fiddling with a pair of ear plugs might seem like no big thing – but in our house we are rejoicing!
With countless ear infections, eardrum perforations, surgery and seven years of osteopathic treatment under his belt, my son had just been advised by an ENT consultant that his hearing was well-below normal and that re-insertion of grommets was urgently required. Though the first grommet insertion successfully restored hearing, they fell out of position within a few months; the infections, perforations and hearing loss returned. Homeopathic, naturopathic and osteopathic treatment all proved relatively effective in alleviating congestion but never quite hit the mark in eradicating the chronic infections and subsequent perforations. Frustrated and desperate, I quietly resigned to opt for surgery.
This was early spring when by chance, we were introduced to Austin Burn-Jones and the Bowen Technique. Whilst on the urgent surgery waiting list my son underwent several treatments with Austin: though remarkably simplistic, I immediately observed subtle changes in my son not only physically but emotionally and behaviourally as well. It was as though the ‘real boy’ was unfolding before my eyes.
Pre-surgery called for another hearing and pressure test, carried out on a Friday afternoon. Monday, owing to the most ‘normal’ test results my son has ever had, surgery was cancelled and we were sent home.
Jumping into the sea without a care for ear plugs or infections excitingly liberating? – You Betchya!”
